Living with anxiety and depression can significantly impact every aspect of life, not only for the individual experiencing them but also for their loved ones who are offering support. These challenges can feel overwhelming and isolating, often requiring professional guidance to navigate and overcome. Whether or not you have a formal diagnosis, therapy can offer valuable tools to address persistent feelings of worry, sadness, and low self-worth. Anxiety and depression often shape how we interact with ourselves and others, influencing our relationships and daily experiences. In therapy, we can work together to explore and understand your current struggles, while also reflecting on past experiences that may have contributed to your difficulties. I aim to provide a supportive, empathetic, and confidential space where we can create a tailored approach to help you develop effective coping strategies and rediscover a sense of balance and purpose in your life.

Anxiety and depression can be both very simple and extremely complicated to understand and work with. On the face of it, its a dysfunction between how our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are interacting. We might think "I'm no good at my job" which causes us to feel overwhelmed or low in mood and in turn, avoid work where possible, or we may think "what are other people thinking of me?", leading to increased anxiety and a multitude of behavioural responses from avoiding social situations to feeling your heart race and sweating in social situations with our fight or flight triggering. Essentially, we perceive threat where there is none. We get trapped in a cycle between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours unable to find a way to break the pattern.

It often goes much deeper though. These can be caused by strong negative stories we tell ourselves such as "I'm not good enough", or maybe we are being put into environments where our personality, identity and values are not aligned causing us to feel out of place. We may even carry deep existential worries with us that are manifesting and projecting into other social situations. What makes this all the more complicated, is these things interact with each other too! Our safety responses to situations like these can be complex too, as often our primal 'safety first' brain finds shortcuts to relieve stress. You may find yourself in avoidance, using substances, comfort eating or trying to control situations that are not meant to be controlled as a means of comforting yourself, only to find in the medium and long-term you feel much worse.

You have your individual story with these that is unique, and we can work together to not only understand it but to begin to break the pattern. We can look at developing positive coping strategies that work in the short and long-term and we can begin to build a more functional and self-compassionate version of your inner world so you can reach your potential, free from overwhelming anxiety and depression.
